Backstory

Backstory

He is part of my back story. It was his first marriage, her second. He raised two children, both as if they were his own, even if only one shared his DNA. English has never been his language even though the States have always been his home. His hands are weathered from a lifetime as a ranch hand.

When he caught me with my camera he made it clear that I was supposed to be in the frame too and I obliged.

He has an amazing spirit and there is a kindness in his eyes. Even without words he has always made me feel so special. That is a pretty amazing gift to make someone feel so loved with only play, laughter, and smiles.

And then he obliged me. He has always obliged me. I will always think of him and tickle fights on the living room floor after he finished a long day working on the ranch.

His roots are my roots and I'm thankful that the boys have been able to know him. When they were super little he was simply "the Cowboy". Now he is their GranPapa and in the same way their mother knows him they do to - broken English and Spanish exchanged among lots of hugs, smiles and laughter.
