1 :: 30 | Documenting Gratitude

For the better part of a month I've been off. Let's be real. For the better part of a month I've been in a pretty crappy mood.

So when my friend Erika posted that she is taking on a month of gratitude posting on her blog it made me pause. I've done this a few times before - once as a scrapbooking project which I'm fairly certain is unfinished somewhere in the depths of my cabinets and once on Facebook which ended up feeling like some sort of your life is better than mine race to nowhere. So why do it again?

Because I've been in a pretty crappy mood the better part of a month and I need to snap out of it. But taking a look at my life through my lens, making sense of it all with my words always leads me to a better place. So, I'm going to jump in.

Here are two of Erika's rules I'm going to adopt myself:

  • Post every day in November with something I’m grateful for.
  • Sometimes there will be a picture and sometimes there won’t.

And a few of my own:

  • No sharing on social media in hopes of stripping out the noise of "likes" and "followers".
  • Pictures + words in this space only. Would love to have something to hold at the end but right now I can't commit to that.
  • Doesn't have to be from the day. Giving myself permission to make this easy which means I don't have to be overflowing with gratitude for everything in daily life I just need to say yes to stepping back once a day to look for the blessings.

1 :: 30

Thankful that this bunch of boys that, for the most part, have been together since just before they started Kindergarten have stayed together in this day and age of playing of club sports. Thankful for the friendships they have made. Thankful for the skills they have gained. Thankful for the lessons they have learned, especially when we lose. Thankful for the fathers who give their time to these boys. Thankful that the morning after Halloween they pulled together as a team and won the playoff game. Thankful for this capture of spontaneous camaraderie during a break.

Championship game here we come.
